DYNASTEE’
A female artist in the male-dominated rap market, Dynastee’ starts
strong in the studio and finishes still stronger on stage. Successful
female rap artists are rare because the rites of passage through
scepticism and gender prejudice overwhelm all but the gangster bravado
of the rap genre while not sounding too masculine for a sexy female.
Audiences expect female entertainers (of any style) to have sex appeal.
Also, the usual subjects of crime, violence, incarcertion, with near
pornographic descriptions, too often utilized by rap artists, are difficult to
legitimize by a female rapper while trying at the same time to be demure
and captivating.
Still, Dynastee’ accomplishes this macho/seductive contradiction by
combining rapping and singing with an aggressive, lyrically direct rap and
seductive low-alto, throaty rasp, alluring the men in her audience and
inspiring the woman.
Her album featuring “Flirt”, touches on the love for money and her
decision to party and “shake her booty” while others try to get the cash, “
My Next Door Neighbor” deals with child abuse, " By Ya Syde", features
Con Funk Shun and talks about her loyalty to a friend that has a
cocaine habit. The hook is sung by funk legend Felton Pilate. Dynastee’
has performed this song live with “Con Funk Shun” at “ Kimball’s East” in
Berkeley. The entire crowd was mesmerized. “Escape the Ghetto”
features The Wild Bunch and was produced by Wild Bunch of “Sony
Records” this song speaks on the deception of money verses freedom
from the world and the ghetto. Her tracks were produced by Kenny M.
aka the Wizard for M. Entertainment Group/Grand Jury, Villiani,
Jason Floyd, and Felton Pilate for Felstar Entertainment. The remaining
tracks, many of them single candidates, quickly pass phat—going
straight to obese!!
Starting in Vegas on June 22, 1996, Dynastee’ introduced her previous
album to the world with here powerful in Yoface delivery!! This does not
overlook her skilled performance at the 1996 Gavin Conference in
Oakland which found her a spot on the front page of the Oakland Tribune
the next morning. Having been an opening act since 1990 for artists
such as Too Short, Spice 1, M.C. Breed, Adina Howard, Jewell,
Doveshack, Twins, Conscious Daughters, and Premiere she also
performed along side The Truth of Priority Records and Mac & Ak at
the 1997 Celebrity Basketball Game. Dynastee’ in 1998 worked with the
Perinatal Counsel, located in the Bay Area, founded by Leila Steinberg
and Askari Sawonda. Through this program she has had the opportunity
to perform at several high schools in the Bay Area (Oak Tech High,
McClymons High etc. ). The Perinatal Counsel also sponsored her music
video entitled “Look In Their Eyes” ( a song from her previous album).
In the summer of August 1998 she turned out the Glenville Fest, which
took place in Cleveland, Ohio. Dynastee’ opened for Myran and Voices
of Theory in front of a crowd of 15,000 people and before her
performance she was interviewed by Langford the Man Stevens (Asst.
Program Director). Live on WZAK 93 F.M.
One of Dynastee’s songs entitled “Stay Strong” was released on the
compilation entitled “Coast Ridas” which featured artist such as Big
Pun, DJ Quik, and Tha Alkaholiks. It was released March 9, 1999.
She was also featured on the single released October 15, 2000 entitled
“Sista Sista” from the album “Katora” on Vidal Sounds/M.
Entertainment Grp. Distributed By EMI/Capitol Records. Also, a favorite
album cut, “Have A Good Time” was featured on the West Coast
